Teacher’s Day is a very special day for all teachers and this special day is celebrated with full of joy on September 5 every year in India. On this day, there are different types of programs and children are made teachers. A teacher has special importance in the life of any student. It is said that for any child there is a parent in the first place and then a teacher in the second place. The teacher plays a very important role in a student’s life to show them a correct path for success. A student’s life can not be imagined without a teacher.
The teacher has a special place in the life of every student, teachers have an important role in riding the future of the nation, with their help an ideal citizen is born. In fact, 05th September is the birth date of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan and he has given his incomparable contribution to the Indian education field. Due to his greater contribution, this day is celebrated as Teacher’s Day.
Importance of Teacher’s day:-
Teacher’s day is a great celebration day for all the teachers along with all the students. This is the only day when a student can express their feelings, emotions, respects, and thoughts in front of their teachers. Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, former Vice President of the country is remembered on Teachers’ Day. Teacher’s day is also celebrated in other countries along with India. In India, it is celebrated on 5th September, however, World Teacher’s Day is celebrated on 5 October.
Difference between 5 October and 5 September Teacher’s Day:-
It is important to understand what is the difference between celebrating of Teacher’s Day on 5 September and 5 October. Teacher’s Day is celebrated in India on 5 September in the memory of Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, which is to promote the importance of teachers in India, whereas World Teachers Day is to explain the importance of education and the value of education in the world. It is observed to explain the teacher’s role and his responsibilities.
Why Teacher’s Day Celebrated on 05th September in India?:-
The story of declaring Teachers’ Day on September 5 is linked to Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, who was the first Vice President of India. He was a great philosopher and a great teacher who has shared his vast knowledge with the students. 5th September 1888, was the day when Dr. Radhakrishnan was born in Tamil Nadu. Despite his financially weak family situation, he had a keen interest in studies.
Radhakrishnan’s early education took place at the Gaudi School at Tiruvallur and then at the Tirupati Mission School. He completed his bachelor’s from the Madras Christian College and then he completed his Master’s in Philosophy. Later, he joined Madras Residency College as an assistant professor.
40 years given to education – Before coming into politics, Dr. Radhakrishnan served for 40 years in the field of education. He said if a person wants to reach the destination then he needs to be educated first then only he/she can reach his/her goal. Hence, having a teacher in life is a must thing. After the independence of India, Dr. Radhakrishnan was appointed as the ambassador of the Soviet Union.
He remained in the rank of ambassador until 1952, and then he was appointed as the First Vice President of India. He was made the second President of the country in 1962 after the second term of the first President of India ended. On 17 April 1975, after a long illness, he traveled from this world and left behind a valuable heritage of knowledge and his precious thoughts.
Teachers’ Day in India is dedicated to the great educationist and philosopher Sarvepalli Dr. Radhakrishnan, hence Sikkara Divas is celebrated in India on 5 September in his honor. Whereas UNESCO has chosen October 5 as the day to celebrate Global Teacher’s Day.
How is Teacher’s Day celebrated in India?
School, college and institute are not taught on Teacher’s Day. This day is dedicated to all the teachers hence all the students pay respect to them by giving diaries, bouquets, Pens, statues etc. to their teachers. Some children imitate their beloved teachers. Many students perform dance – music, drama etc. in front of teachers. In many places, students get cake cut from teachers. School children decorate their class. In school and college, students also recite speeches on Teacher’s Day, Shayari for their Guru, and Couplets on Teachers’ Day and thank their teachers wholeheartedly.

All the students love and respect their teachers and many times they are unable to show their feeling towards them but on teacher’s day, they feel happy because on this day all the students can express their feeling, emotions, and thoughts about them.
