Mythological and Historical Relations of Rakshabandhan:-

Three forms of Rakshabandhan are seen on looking at history. It happened first as a wish for defense. Wartime, other members of the family, Brahmins etc. wished to return the man safely by tying up the defense threads before going on a sea voyage abroad to go to land, used as a trade symbol. There are many examples of this. It is said that when fierce war broke out between Devas and Asuras, Indra, his wife Shachi, tied a thread on her husband’s wrist before going to the battlefield.

Another form of this is seen when the dependents were forced to tie a protective coat on the wrists of the strongmen to protect them. Evidence of this is found in the Gurukul system. The new year of learning and teaching begins on this day in Gurukuls. On this day, the Raje-Maharajas go to the Gurukuls and participate in the yajna and take the pledge of Vedas, Brahmins, and Cow-protection. Then the sage-maharishi used to tie the Raksasutra on the kings’ wrists.

In the middle war between Alexander and Porus, Alexander’s girlfriend tied a rakhi on Porus’s wrist to his lover. Had taken the promise of protecting life. This is why Porus did not kill Alexander even after repeated occasions of Alexander’s slaughter. Probably due to tying the rakhi, it must have done so to protect the sisterhood of the sister. Similarly, when Bahadur Shah attacked Mewar, Queen Karmavati of Chittor sent a rakhi to the Mughal ruler Humayun and Humayun also protected Karmavati. The thread of Rakhi has so much power that even a heretic could not live without being influenced by it.

The way to celebrate the Rakshabandhan festival:-

The festival of Rakshabandhan makes the relationship between brother and sister more sweet and deep. On this day, sisters tie a rakhi in their brother’s hand and take a vow to protect them and wish for the brother’s longevity. Pledges to protect siblings. Nowadays, according to his ability, the brother also gives a gift to the sister. A few days before the Rakhi, the markets are adorned with Rakhis, gifts and sweets. The initial form of this was the thread of Molly, but in today’s adamant pradhan era, rhetoric is also visible in the Rakhis. The sisters offer rakhi, sweets and fruits etc. to the brother and the brother gives blessings and gifts or rupees.

Being protected from dependents, today this festival has been limited to the sense of protecting the sister especially by the brother. The reason for this change was the contemporary political circumstances in which it became the responsibility of the brother to protect the sister. Though in ancient times, the weapons were proficient in swordsmanship, horse riding etc., and could protect themselves but at the time of the objection, they also took the help of the brothers by tying the defense thread.

History of Rakshabandhan:-

To the till date, the truth has not been known as to when the festival of Rakshabandhan started. But still, based on the stories and stories written in many mythological evidences and texts, we try to know its history.

According to a legend, Maharana Sangram Singh of Mewar died about 400 years ago. The throne was then handed over to Kumar Vikramaditya. But Vikramaditya was very young at that time. At the same time, a mutual split between the chieftains of Mewar had reached the climax in those days. Seeing the right opportunity for himself, Bahadur Shah, who was the ruler of Gujarat, attacked Mewar.

But even in that hour of calamity, Rajavata i.e. Karnavati, wife of Maharana Sangram Singh, did not panic. In that calamity, she sent a rakhi and a letter to Emperor Humayun, who was the ruler of Delhi at the time. The letter wrote: – “Maharaj is no longer in the world, Kumar is still in his childhood. There is mutual disunity in the state. The ruler of Gujarat, Bahadur Shah, who was once Maharaja’s refuge. Has climbed the fort. I am sending a rakhi, you accept it. You protect the King’s throne. I will protect myself through fire. Humayun accepted Rakhi and the letter, accepting her as his sister. Pledged to protect them, and he along with his army marched for Mewar.

According to another legend, it is said that a long time ago there was a fierce war between Sur and Asura. In which Sur Gan was in a state of defeat. Seeing such a situation, Devraj Indra’s wife tied a thread with her mantras on her husband’s wrist. And with the same defense formula, he won. Since then, the importance of these sources of defense has been recognized.

According to the third incident, it is believed that in the Mahabharata, when killing the evil king Shishupala, one finger of Shri Krishna’s hand was injured by the Sudarshan Chakra. Draupadi then tied a piece of her cloth to his finger. Due to this, Shri Krishna, being very happy, promised to protect her at every turn, and many times Shri Krishna kept her promise by protecting her.

According to the fourth belief, it is said that in ancient times, when the Kshatriyas went to war. Then the women of his family used to put silk thread in his hand and kumkum on the forehead. Because they believed that doing so would give them victory.

However, whatever its story. But the essence of everything comes out. But this festival of Rakshabandhan became a festival of brotherhood mainly after a historical event of the medieval period.

Epilogue:-

Nowadays the sanctity of the Rakhi festival is gradually ending and the place of true love has been lost. Brother’s duty does not end by giving money or gifts only to sister. We should be grateful to have such a beautiful festival and keep in mind the sanctity of this festival and should decide to protect our sister. We should not consider it only a festival however we should feel the ancient tradition hidden in those threads which had been started for some purpose and reasons.
