Baisakhi 2021 | Famous Hindu Festival
Baisakhi or (Vaisakhi) is marked to be the new year of Sikhs. It is generally celebrated in the Punjab region every 13 or 14 of April. It is supposed to be a very spiritual and historical festival of the Sikhs, and Baisakhi is known by a different name in various regions, like ‘Rongali Bihu’ in Assam, ‘Vishu’ in Kerala, ‘Naba Barsha’ (First Rain) in West Bengal etc.
It is also called the harvest festival, as we all know Punjab is rich with agricultural properties and since the Baisakhi arrives the farmer began to cut off rabi corps and offer the pray to God for giving such beautiful harvesting. The Baisakhi is a festival that brings out enthusiasm all over the country. Also, this day is signified as the formation of (KHALSA PANTH COMMUNITY). There is state wise holiday on the occasion of Baisakhi school, colleges and offices are mostly remaining closed.
Early History of Baisakhi Festival:-
Baisakhi initiated when (Guru Tegh Bahadur) was murdered by the Mughal emperor (Aurangzeb). (Guru Gobind Singh) was chosen as the next frontrunner or Guru of Sikhs After the death of Guru teg bahadur. Guru Gobind Singh saw that the condition of people under the rule of Aurangzeb (a Mughal emperor) was doleful as he is forcing people to convert to Islam so Guru Gobind Singh took a stand upon it by motivating youngsters to come forward to their religion and defend.
Guru Gobind Singh took a wise stand for the religion and motivated many of the youngsters to fight in 1699. After requesting and encouragement 5 men took a stand and showed interest. They were known as “Panj Pyaras”(the valuable five men). Guru Gobind Singh took them and dressed them in (saffron) clothes. on that day a new religion was found as today we all know called Sikhism (Khalsa Panth).
When is Baisakhi 2021:-
On the occasion of the Baisakhi Festival, we have seen an official holiday in some of the states in India. According to the Hindu Panchang, Baisakhi is falling on 13th April 2021.
How Baisakhi Celebrated in India:-
On this day the Gurdwaras are decorated in a festive look, all Sikhs visit to take baths in lakes or rivers, langars are made in Gurdwaras and many ritual places, many of people share festive foods, homes are being decorated by items and cleaned well as this is the starting day of the year. Many people draw rangolis outside are of their home or entrance, many people dress up in orange and yellow colour combination.
Farmers pray and thank God for a plentiful harvest in the upcoming year. Many people at tent Nagar kirtans are kind of parade led by (Panj Pyaras). On this occasion of happiness, Bhangra and Gidda (Punjabi Folk Dance) are performed by men and women.
Baisakhi Rituals and Tradition:-
For Farmers: – On this occasion, the farmer thank nature and worship her for giving out the rich harvest and pray the god for the upcoming year. They also pray for the wellbeing.
For Sikhs: – The Sikh families on the occasion of Baisakhi gather and go Gurdwara for early Morning Prayer. Kada Prasad is a special Prasad given to the worshipers.
Many of the Sikhs participate in volunteering for langar and provide free food to the needy one. The community people sing a traditional song, dance, and chant religious phrases.
